Made by Miss Emily E. Mullins (1906–1967) who was a basketmaker in Reading. This basket was made for the museum. It is made in white willow.
Construction is with a three rod wale from the oval (can't see what type) base, into a three-rod slew, then into pairing with packing to build up the sides, finished with waling and behind two in front of four border.

Half bushel basket
This is a traditional style Cambridgeshire basket that is a measure for hard fruit like apples. Maker unknown.
This example uses a 3-rod slew to build up the basket in buff and moves into an attractive contrast colour brown willow for the top. The side stakes and handles are also in brown willow giving the overall basket a striking colour scheme.
