This is a simple bow handle that has a little willow peg inserted using a bodkin to make a hole and the rapper to hammer the peg in. The peg stops the handle sliding out of the weave as there is no wrapping to secure it.
I really like the simplicity of this handle and the little peg was fun to learn.
These are made from 5ft white willow that is cranked to give it a rope like texture. I liked learning how to do these and enjoyed the cranking process.
This handle was also fun to learn, I found it harder than the cranked side handles as you have really focus on not kinking the bow as it is inserted or the rods as you wrap. I was pleased with this as a first attempt but didn't quite select long enough wraps and they only just went the distance.
I didn't know the name for the splitting the willow to wrap this until Gill told me it was called a skein wrap. This is an oval base with a wider handle to balance out the extra length in the oval.
Splitting the willow was harder than people make it look on the YouTube videos! I didn't really have long enough willow and had to try and join it in several places but didn't really know how to do that so just tucked it in and did the best I could.
